I was delighted to be able to meet with Jorgen Pettersen and James Johnston, the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the IIGA respectively, when they visited Jersey in January. As well as formally welcoming them to our Island, I was able to confirm to them that Jersey’s bid for the 2015 Games has the full support of the Island’s government, and I hope I was able to convey to them how committed and keen we are to bring the Games back to Jersey, 18 years after hosting them in 1997.
I know that for the vast majority of our sportsmen and women, the Island games is the pinnacle of their sporting ambitions, and as sport is undoubtedly a major activity in most, if not all Islands, I am vividly aware of how important the Island Games is in the Sporting calendar. It is against this backdrop that Jersey is offering to host the 2015 Games. The people of Jersey are extremely keen to have the Games back and I would be delighted if you chose to take up our offer.
