Badlabecques to team up with Les Amis for the NatWest Island Games opening ceremony
Jèrriais pop-folk band Badlabecques will perform with Les Amis, the organisation who offer support to people in Jersey with learning disabilities, at the NatWest Island Games XVI Opening Ceremony on Saturday June 27th.
Badlabecques’ lead singer and founder Kit Ashton approached Les Amis, to ask if their choir would be willing to perform with the band, after he saw them perform at their Christmas concert.
Kit says: “We're really excited to be playing at the opening ceremony, and will be super proud to represent Jersey and Jèrriais, on the big day.
When I saw Les Amis choir perform last year I thought it was a lot of fun, as well as being very moving. Together we are rehearsing a special version of a well known song in both English and Jèrriais, and I am confident that their presence will make a real difference to the atmosphere and meaning of the song – which is all about positivity, inclusion and collaboration”.
Shaun Findlay the Managing Director at Les Amis said: “It is an honor and privilege for our choir to be involved in the Opening Ceremony demonstrating inclusion in its truest form and I am sure it will be a day to remember for all involved.”
The title of the song is not being released as the band would like to keep it as a surprise, but it is likely to be recognized by the international crowd and Badlabecques are hoping they will sing along.
