FB Athletics Track
Significant investment in FB Fields ahead of Jersey 2015 has meant that the athletics track and sports facilities comply with new IAAF regulations and that it is a Category A facility.
The 400 metre track has six lanes with eight lanes on the finishing straight for the 100 metre and 110 metre events.
The red polyurethane surface at was originally installed in 1986 and was last upgraded for the 1997 Island Games. Those improvements included adding 4mm of new solid polyurethane surfacing material with a surface texture formed of partially embedded EPDM rubber crumb. Athletes at Jersey 2015 will be running on a surface that has a further layer of coating with partially embedded red EPDM rubber crumb. This has reduced the areas that were previously susceptible to pooling in heavy rain, although hopefully this will not be tested during the Games.
Facilities for competitiors
The improvements which have been completed at FB Fields include:
- new cages for discus and hammer
- new run-ups for triple jump and long jump
- a brand new pole vault run up and landing bed have been set up and we hope that many Islands will enter this event.
- a new high jump landing bed
- new equipment for all events
- refurbished changing facilities
- new flood lighting with improved Lux levels
The pavilion, close to the site's entrance, houses:
- changing facilities
- a first aid room
- an officials’ room
Upstairs there is a balcony and a canteen, and four judo clubrooms.
Seating and parking
A new covered seating area for 90 people has been built close to the finish line, and there are 30 more seats under cover further along the finishing straight. More temporary seating will be brought in for the week of the Games.
Free parking just inside the entrance with additional parking adjacent to the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre
